Kashi Tamilsagam 4.0
The fourth edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam, referred to as Kashi Tamilsagam 4.0, is set to occur from December 2 to December 15, 2025, in the historic city of Varanasi, also known as Kashi. This event seeks to celebrate and reinforce the long-standing cultural, linguistic, and spiritual ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi. It is part of the broader “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat” initiative, which fosters unity in diversity by connecting various regions of India through their shared heritage. The theme for this edition is “Let us Learn Tamil – Karpom Tamil,” which emphasizes raising awareness about the Tamil language and its rich traditions throughout India.
The Kashi Tamil Sangamam was first launched in 2022 with the aim of promoting cultural unity and rediscovering historical connections between the northern and southern regions of India. The fourth edition continues this tradition by uniting scholars, students, artists, and professionals from both Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. Approximately 1,400 to 1,500 delegates from Tamil Nadu are anticipated to attend. These participants will represent a variety of groups, including students, teachers, writers, farmers, artisans, professionals, women, and spiritual leaders. Each group will contribute knowledge, traditions, and experiences that highlight the cultural and intellectual richness of Tamil civilization.
The event is collaboratively organized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU). IIT Madras and BHU act as nodal institutions and knowledge partners, overseeing academic and cultural activities. Their participation represents the blend of contemporary education and traditional wisdom, a central message that the Sangamam aims to convey.
One of the distinctive features of Kashi Tamilsagam 4.0 is the “Tamil Karpom” initiative, which promotes the learning and teaching of Tamil among individuals in northern India. Workshops, interactive sessions, and exhibitions will be conducted to assist participants in appreciating the beauty and richness of the Tamil language, literature, and culture. Likewise, students from Tamil Nadu will have the opportunity to delve into the spiritual and historical importance of Kashi. Through these interactions, the event aims to foster connections of understanding and respect among linguistic and cultural communities.
Another significant aspect is the symbolic “Agasthya Yatra,” which follows the legendary journey of Sage Agastya from Tamil Nadu to Kashi. This journey symbolizes the profound historical and spiritual connections that have existed between the two regions for millennia. Participants will trace this symbolic path, visiting heritage sites that embody shared traditions, beliefs, and philosophies. The event will also include cultural performances, music, traditional craft exhibitions, and food festivals that highlight the essence of Tamil culture.
Regarding logistics, the government and organizing bodies have made comprehensive arrangements to ensure a seamless and pleasant experience for all attendees. Special travel and accommodation services are being offered, along with translation and communication support through modern technology like the BHASHINI multilingual app. Security, sanitation, and medical provisions have also been enhanced in Varanasi to accommodate the influx of visitors.
Beyond the celebrations, Kashi Tamilsagam 4.0 conveys a profound message of national unity. It illustrates how linguistic and cultural diversity can thrive together within the Indian identity. The relationship between Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh serves as a living testament to India’s composite culture, where knowledge, art, and spirituality surpass geographical limits.
